Walking, Talking, Enjoying Summer . . .
Mark continues to feel very well. He takes daily walks, enjoying the walking paths here. His steroid pills are tapering off, for which he is thankful. It does increase his appetite, as a side benefit. He is happy to talk with friends and neighbors. And yes, he did go to church on Sunday, six days after surgery! He also spends a lot of time reading. I think the Phillies are making him happy too, as they continue to win each game. Many mornings we enjoy web cam conversations with Kris. Then we enjoy the beautiful weather we have been having, often eating out on our patio. Thanks so much for your interest and prayers.

I was so glad to connect with both of you on the phone! And finally read your blogs---your voice and comments make it sound like God isn't finished with your work here on earth yet! That you could minister to the nurse and give her a book about Ben Carson is proof that you are still others-centered, even as you go through crisis. (We just found another book by Ben Carson that will go to ECA's library--his message of survival and success is important to teens.)
To encourage your praying, these are the 4 specifics we listed on our powerpoint:
*building project: work teams and money to enable Phase 2 to be completed
*missing teachers -- wisdom for Beth as she assigns the right person to the right place. We read From Good to Great (social chapter) for our core course, and are applying it to ECA. Collins declares it is crucial to place the right person in the right seat on our bus. So often in the past, ECA has just accepted any person willing to come. How can administrators be more discerning of teachers with teachable spirits and then encourage those who fit to stay? Your prayers are key to help.
*creating a team -- Since we change so many teachers from year to year, we need the Holy Spirit to energize us and direct us into creative and everyday ways to grow unity. We "senior citizens" need to share the vision for ECA and core values with the our new colleagues, and keep establishing precedents for the way we do things at ECA, without putting on any chains. I clearly remember your listening and wise words to Trevor about BIC in Bogota. Pray we will follow your godly example as we listen and speak to younger teachers.
*practice shepherding (in elementary), discipling(middle and high school), and serving others (each grade chooses a project) and get the newest teachers on board to see the value of each in our school priorities. Glenn is concerned that we spend too much time on discipling and not enough professional development time with new teachers, to get them off to a strong start as authorities in their classrooms. So often their goal is to "be a friend" to their students. You both know the hump that makes in classroom management.
Sorry this is so long--I know as experienced teachers/administrators, you can relate to these concerns, and the Holy Spirit can direct your prayers in other ways, too.
May the Master Teacher continue to give you openings into the hearts and lives of others so you can share the huge blessing He has given you. And bless you both in the same measure you are blessing others, like us.
Love in Him,
Glenda
